Facebook Places – How do I set it up?

September 21, 2010

A. – Check in at your business

On a smartphone with geo-location and the Facebook App installed - click on the Places icon on the dashboard.

Facebook will provide you with a list of Places nearby to choose from in a couple of seconds.

You may find your business is already available. Click on that – otherwise click the + button to add.  Now you can check in and add some text if you like.

B. Find your Facebook Place on Facebook and claim it

Log in to Facebook on your computer (easier then handset)  go to your latest status update  which will be that you have checked in at your place. Click on the place and you’ll go to the Place page. In the bottom of the page, find a button called “Is this your business?”. Click on that to begin the registration process.

Follow the verification process.

This is an important step for businesses who wish to promote their location and brand to the ever increasing number of Facebook users spending more and more time on their mobile phones to connect to people and share ideas and information online.
