Social Media Integration

September 29, 2010

Creative agency heads are asking a new question when they begin to develop a new campaign: “What is it [consumers] are going to want to engage in?” says Paul Gunning, Chief Executive Officer, Tribal DDB Worldwide. When ad execs find the answer, then they start to think about social, TV, radio and print. – A good social media plan lunched successfully and maintained will help you to connect with your existing customers and new ones alike.

The Top five things you can do to enhance your facebook page immediately:

1. Obtain a Facebook vanity URL so that people can find you easily.

2. Add your Facebok URL to your email signature and any other marketing material so prospects can learn more about you – this is as well as your main website.

3. Market your products by posting discounts and package deals to your wall.

4. Consider  Facebook ads to target your exact audience via PPC campaigns similar to Google Adwords but targeted in a much different way.

5. Update your group or business page on a regular basis with helpful information and answers to questions – don’t let it go stale.

Facebook Places – How do I set it up?

September 21, 2010

A. – Check in at your business

On a smartphone with geo-location and the Facebook App installed - click on the Places icon on the dashboard.

Facebook will provide you with a list of Places nearby to choose from in a couple of seconds.

You may find your business is already available. Click on that – otherwise click the + button to add.  Now you can check in and add some text if you like.

B. Find your Facebook Place on Facebook and claim it

Log in to Facebook on your computer (easier then handset)  go to your latest status update  which will be that you have checked in at your place. Click on the place and you’ll go to the Place page. In the bottom of the page, find a button called “Is this your business?”. Click on that to begin the registration process.

Follow the verification process.

This is an important step for businesses who wish to promote their location and brand to the ever increasing number of Facebook users spending more and more time on their mobile phones to connect to people and share ideas and information online.

Google unveils ‘instant’ searches

September 10, 2010

The launch of Google Instant Search came as a surprise to everyone, especially as the beta version was only announced a few weeks back. Some searchers may have noticed the Greyed out Google logo yesterday that changed back to colour as you typed. This was to celebrate the launch of Google Instant. This is basically an algorithm change whereby Google will match the search results as you type.

This means massive changes for SEO and although some bloggers have predicted the end of SEO it’s quite the opposite and will give lots more ‘search result space’ to lesser known websites. It’s certainly the biggest thing that has happened to SEO in a long time.

As for PPC (Paid Search) this will have a big affect on how impressions are measured:

Effect on ad impressions

  • Counting impressions with Google Instant happens in three different ways.
  • Any click – If the user starts typing, then clicks anywhere on the page, an impression is counted. Whether that’s an ad, spell check, or link, it’s counted.
  • Search Selection – An impression is counted when the search button is clicked or a user selects a query.
  • 3 Second Rule – When the user stops typing and does nothing for 3 seconds, an impression is counted

You will need to go on to google.com to see all this in action. Watch the search results as you type!

Google Instant Search will be rolled out worldwide over the coming months. We are currently working on a more defined point of view. For now though take a look at what Google has to say by following these links below.
